We are a relatively new band who started ringing in 1998 in anticipation of the restoration of the bell tower at our village church. St James, Beercrocombe. As they had not been rung regularly for nearly 80 years, being in need of a complete overhaul and with a cracked tenor, no-one in the village was able to ring the bells. At the instigation of Church Warden Maureen Longstaff, who was also responsible for masterminding the restoration of the bell tower, a band of volunteers was raised from the village. We started with with a band of ten total novices ringing at the nearby village of Fivehead, whose residents endured our amateur efforts for 18 months. Tuition was patiently given by Graham Button and Margaret Taylor together with other members of the Crewkerne Branch of the Bath and Wells Association of Change Ringers.

Following completion of the tower restoration. The new bells were dedicated at a service on the 12th of December 1999 and at 12 Noon on January 1st 2000 the band 'Rang in the Millenium'. (For news of the Beercrocombe Bellringers see 'Tower News')
